Volkswagen Group, also called Volkswagen AG, a major German automobile manufacturer, was founded by the German government in 1937 to mass-produce a low-priced “people’s car.” Headquarters are in Wolfsburg, Germany.

They produce a range of models, with the most popular options being the Volkswagen Passat, beetle, the Golf and the Tiguan.

Volkswagen production expanded rapidly in the 1950s. The company introduced the Transporter van in 1950 and Karmann Ghia coupe 1955. Still, sales abroad were generally strong until they reached America because of their small size, unusual rounded appearance, and historical connection to Nazi Germany. But as soon as Volkswagen of America was established in 1956, things began changing for these cars- especially when The Beatles took a liking to them, with all four owning one by 1964!

In 1959, the American advertising agency Doyle Dane Bernbach was hired to represent Volkswagen and launched an innovative campaign that changed how we see cars. The iconic Beetle design wasn’t just quaint; it also had a secret weapon: its size made parking easier than ever before. Although Volkswagen made many detailed changes to the Beetle, the basic rear-engine design and rounded shape remained the same. The company developed other rear-engine models with more modern styling and improved engineering, but none were as successful as the Beetle.
