Cars We Buy: MINI

A car company that's both popular and common, the Mini has somehow managed to maintain its cult status despite being a dime-a-dozen. The idea for the small automobile came from British Motor Corporation in the 60s but underwent several changes in production. Back then, cars were limited by length due to tight city streets, so having enough space was very important, thanks largely to front-wheel drive and engine innovations that allow more room inside than ever before!

In 1959, the Morris Mini was introduced as a revolutionary vehicle. Its compact size and low price made it ideal for new customers who had never before owned cars or scooters. The car performed well with its unibody that reduced weight to increase performance while preserving space in the automobile's cabin so passengers could be comfortable on long trips. By 1969, this British icon became an independent marque under Cooper Motor Company when Austin exited from BMC's ownership group following their merger with Jaguar Cars Ltd., leaving them without any passenger-car brands left but MG Sports Car Co. Rover Group eventually bought out BMW's share of what would become MINI (Morris Industrial & Commercial Investment) which allowed them to trademark "Mini" once again.

The only way that the Mini survived during the 80s and 90s was to develop “special editions”. This was in part the doing of BMW, which bought the remnants of BMC under the Rover badge. These models were seen as cool fashion icons, a touch of retro in an otherwise modern market. But BMW wasn't finished with the Mini logo, which they still held. In 2001, the technologically advanced New Mini was launched, otherwise unrelated to the old car. In 2007 the number of cars produced reached 1 million.
